Crochet Kimonos

A crochet kimono cannot be made by a machine. Every one here was worked stitch by stitch with a hook by our artisan partners in India and Nepal — granny squares joined into the body, lace stitches for the sleeves, fringe or scalloped edges finished by hand. A single long crochet kimono takes days. That is why the stitches are open and three-dimensional, the drape is soft, and no two pieces are quite the same.

We make them short and long, hooded and fringed, in cotton for spring and summer and in soft blends for fall. Wear one open over a slip dress or a tank and jeans, and let the stitchwork be the only pattern in the outfit.

Care: hand wash cool, press out water in a towel, lay flat and reshape. Never hang a wet crochet piece.

Why is a handmade crochet kimono expensive? Because it is made by hand — the price pays for 20–40 hours of a skilled artisan's time.
